Maran Gas fixes charter contract for two ships with BG


Maran Gas Maritime Inc., the Gas Shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group Limited (“ASGL”), set up in 2003 to manage the LNG and LPG carriers of ASGL, recently  fixed  the  charter  contract  for  two  ships (ordered  at  DSME  and  others)  with  the  BG  group,  and  Maran  Gas  is  also negotiating  three  other  deals  that  may  last  as  long  as  10  years  with  Shell, according to reports. ASGL has seven LNG newbuildings under order at Daewoo (5) and Hyundai (2).

Furthermore,  Russian-owner  Sovocomflot  has  signed  a  contract  with  Gazprom LNG for the long-term time charter of two LNG carriers (ordered at STX O&S) for a minimum  of  15  years’  employment.  In  addition,  owners  are  actively  negotiating with  the  energy  majors  for  40  LNG  newbuildings  ordered  this  year  without  firm employment  commitments.

High contracting activity in the dry bulk segment continues also this week, with totally 18 ship orders. This includes the order from Eitzen Eco Bulk for up 9 handysize bulk carriers at the private owned Yangzhou shipyard in China. Also Oldendorff is taking advantage of low shipbuilding prices to build up its fleet, latest with declared options for further 2 handysize bulk carriers at Samjin.
Costs to ship liquefied petroleum gas will exceed the 2008 record as the U.S. expands exports amid rising demand in Latin America and India, according to Exmar NV (EXM), the operator of 27 carriers.
The Board of Directors of COSCO Corporation (Singapore) Limited today announced that COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co . Ltd., a subsidiary of the Company’s 51% owned subsidiary, COSCO Shipyard Group Co. Ltd., has secured a contract valued over RMB500 million (approx $81.5 Mln) from a Chinese ship owner to build one 28,000 CBM LNG Vessel.
Freeport LNGFreeport LNG Expansion, L.P. (Freeport LNG) today announced that it had received authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to any country that has, or in the future develops, the capacity to import LNG and with which trade is permissible.
