Danaos Adds 13,100 TEU Containership to Fleet



Danaos Corporation (NYSE: DAC) announced that on May 3, 2012 it took delivery of one more newly built containership, the HYUNDAI SMART, expanding its operational fleet to a total of 62 containerships aggregating 336,849 TEU.


The HYUNDAI SMART, built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, has a carrying capacity of 13,100 TEU, is 366 meters long, 48.2 meters wide and has a speed of 24.70 knots. The HYUNDAI SMART has commenced its 12-year time charter at a fixed charter rate immediately upon delivery. The annualized EBITDA run-rate contribution of the vessel is expected to be approximately $18.8 mil.

Further, the Company announced that on April 27, 2012, it sold the 28 year old 2,130 TEU containership "Montreal" to an unrelated third party for a net price of $6.6 million.

SinOceanic Shipping ASA has entered into a contract with Jinhai Heavy Industries, China, to build 10 x 8800 TEU state-of-the art super eco containerships for delivery from mid 2015. Upon delivery, all vessels will enter into long term, fixed charter parties, a company press release reads.
Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has signed a classification agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of five 18,400 TEU containerships.
Paragon Shipping has placed an order for two 4,800 TEU containerships with Zhejiang Ouhua, China to be delivered in 2014, according to the latest Intermodal Market Report. The price was not disclosed.

Lomar has announced acquisition of four container vessels and three chemical tankers. The 2,500 TEU Luna built in 2002 and the 1,100 TEU Stadt Muenchen built in 1999 have been acquired for an undisclosed sum. CEO of Lomar, Achim Boehme, stated: “These acquisitions further assert our commitment to the container vessel sector having placed orders for up to 12 newbuilding containers in 2012″.
