Panamax business in the Atlantic saw rates slip today and with the May Day
Holiday in the Atlantic on Monday, there is unlikely to be any improvement
before mid-week. There were few cargoes on offer from east coast South
America
and the U.S. Gulf. As a result, charterer demand for ships from the East
eased
and rates lost ground in the Pacific too. The Baltic Panamax index lost 58 to
close the week at 1635.
The Atlantic basin saw the 1998-built 75,752 dwt Grand Sky has gone to an
unnamed charterer for May 07 delivery Ennore on a trip with redelivery
Singapore/Japan at $17,000 daily plus a $700,000 ballast bonus.
The 2001-built 74,427 dwt United-relet Alpha Afovos fix to an unnamed
charterer
for end-May delivery in the U.S. Gulf for a trip with redelivery Skaw-Cape
Passero at $14,500 daily plus a $450,000 ballast bonus.
The 2011-built 79,454 dwt Golden Enterprise has reportedly fixed on subjects
with ABT for spot delivery on the Continent for a trip with two laden legs and
redelivery in the Atlantic at $14,500 daily.
A.C. Toepfer has fixed the 2000-built 75,961 dwt Ourania Luck for May 25-30
delivery passing the Cape of Good Hope for a trip via east coast South America
and redelivery Singapore-Japan at $12,900 daily plus a ballast bonus of $500,
000.

Bunge was the charterer of a TBN for May 21-30 loading 70,000 tons 10%
coal from Norfolk to Rotterdam at $15,50.
Out of the Pacific came word that the 2001-built 75,563 dwt Grace One has gone
to an unnamed charterer for May 08-09 delivery CJK on a trip via NoPac with
redelivery Singapore-Japan at $10,500 daily.
It emerged that the 2009-built 76,600 dwt Berlin has gone to BHP Billiton for
May 05-06 delivery Ningbo on a trip via Hay Point with redelivery China at
$10,500 daily. The business was earlier reported done at $10,000 daily.
For voyage business in the East, SAIL too a TBN for May 25-June 05 loading
75,000 tons 5% coal from Gladstone to Gangavaram at $18,40.
Demand for period tonnage in the East included word that Copenship was said to
be the charterer of the 2005-built 76,150 dwt IVS Merlot for May 07 delivery
Flushing for 4-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at $17,500 daily.
The 2009-built 82,338 dwt Fortune Miracle has gone to an undisclosed
charterer for May 08 delivery Zhoushan for 4-7 months trading with
redelivery worldwide at $11,750 daily.
CAPESIZE

As the Capesize market moved into the weekend, owners with tonnage for
Atlantic
business were relieved to see rates improve today. A trans-Atlantic round
made
a firmer $5,000 daily for May 05-10 delivery Cape Passero. Voyage business
included word of modern tonnage fixing Tubarao/Qingdao business at $20,75.
In
the East, the key Dampier/Qingdao route firmed today to $7.55, and there was
talk that rates will go higher. The Baltic Capesize index added 49 to 1576.
From the Atlantic the 2010-built 180,000 dwt Bulk Hong Kong reportedly fixed
with CSE for April 25 delivery retro-Skaw/Cape Passero on a trip via Roberts
Bank with redelivery Taiwan at $7,000 daily.
The 2000-built 172,000 dwt Tianronghai has fixed with E.On for May 05-10
delivery Cape Passero for a trans- Atlantic round with redelivery Skaw-Cape
Passero at $5,000 daily.
In voyage business, Vale was linked with the 2010-built 181,000 dwt K.
Foundation for May 01-15 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Tubarao to
Qingdao at $20,75.
Solebay took the 2010-built Mineral Honshu for May 09-19 loading 160,000 tons
10% ore from Saldanha to Qingdao at $14,50.
The 2005-built Ocean Confidence went to Pacific Bulk for May 21-30 loading
150,000 tons 10% ore from Esperance to Qingdao at $10,50.
Out of the Pacific, STX Pan Ocean agreed $6,200 daily for the 1994-built
149, 680 dwt Huikanghai for prompt delivery Qingdao on a trip via
Gladstone with redelivery South Korea.
In Pacific voyage business, DHL was said to have taken the 2005-built Ocean
Confidence for May 22-29 loading 130,000 tons 10% coal from Newcastle to
Liuheng
at $11,90.
Rio Tinto took the 1999-built CSK Beilun for May 21-26 loading 160,000 tons
10%
ore from Dampier to Qingdao at an improved $7.55.
The charterer also has the 1996-built RZS Fortune for May 19-25 loading
160,000
tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,40 direct with no brokerage fees.
BHP Billiton has the 2004-built Cargill-relet Glorius for May 16-20 loading
160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,45.

Solid numbers continued to be reported in the Atlantic, with a trip out
reported done at $17,600 daily plus a $450,000 ballast bonus on early May
delivery from east coast South America. In the East, the lack of activity
kept pressure on rates, with a backhaul run from Tonhae to the U.S.Gulf
done at $4,00 daily for the first 50 days and $11,000 daily for the
balance. The Baltic Supramax index added 10 to 1118, while the Handysize
index remained unchanged at 602.
The Atlantic included reports of the 2010-built 57,015 dwt Thor Achiever
fixing
to Martrade for May 13-20 delivery dop Port Said on a tirp with redelivery in
the Persian Gulf or PMO-Colombo range at $20,000 daily.
The 2009-built 57,000 dwt Athos went to Swiss Marine for spot delivery
Cristobal on a trip with 2-3 laden legs and redelivery worldwide at
$18,500 daily.
An unnamed charterer has the 2012-built 57,000 dwt Tai Ping Shan for May 06-09
delivery aps east coast South America on a trip with redelivery east coast
India-Singapore at $17,600 daily plus a $450,000 ballast bonus.
For voyage business, Louis Dreyfus was linked with a Thoresen Thai TBN for May
15-20 loading 55,000 tons 10% hss from Novorossiysk to Yemen at $30,00 basis
1/1, or $31,75 basis 1/2.
Pacific Handy business saw the 2011-built 58,110 dwt GDF Suez fix to Daewoo
for
May 08-10 delivery Tonghae on a trip with redelivery in the U.S. Gulf at
$4,000
daily for the first 50 days trading and $11,000 daily for the balance.
