Atlantic Panamax rates still weak


PANAMAX
=======

As the Atlantic week officially began today, rates were still weak and fresh
inquiry limited.  A trip out via the Black Sea and Gulf of Aden has been done
at $23,500 daily.  An LME (large modern eco-type) was fixed ECSA/Indonesia at
$17,250 daily plus a $725,000 bb.  For the Pacific market, there was said to
be new business on offer, but rates have yet to see any significant change.  A
backhaul round EC India/East paid $14,000 daily for modern tonnage with
delivery retro-April 27.  Malaysia/East via ECSA paid $12,500 daily for mid-May
delivery NoPac rounds have been steady around $9,000 daily.  The Baltic Panamax index
fell 86 today to 1441.

The Atlantic basin included reports of the 1995-built 71,695 dwt Mighty
Michalis
fixing on subjects with AC Toepfer for May 15-20 delivery Canakkale on a trip
via the Black Sea and the Gulf of Aden, with redelivery South Korea at $23,500
daily.

The 2004-built 76,417 dwt Grain Harvester has gone to Yangtze Navigation for
June 01-05 delivery east coast South America on a trip with redelivery
Indonesia at $17,250 daily plus a ballast bonus of $725,000.

The 1998-built 75,752 dwt Grand Sky went to an undisclosed charterer for June
10-20 delivery east coast South America on a trip with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $17,000 daily plus a $700,000 ballast bonus.

The 2001-built 75,323 dwt Trave was linked on subjects with Norden for May 11
delivery Stade on a trip via Murmansk and redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at
$15,000 daily.

Voyage business in the Atlantic heard that SAIL fixed an Oldendorff TBN for
June
01-10 loading 75,000 tons 5% coal from Norfolk to east coast India at $41,00.
Cobelfret has the 2001-built 75,966 dwt Cargill-relet Anna S for May 17-23
loading 59,000 tons 10% ore from Kamsar to San Ciprian at $13,75.

The charterer was also linked with a TBN for May 15-22 loading 70,000 tons 10%
coal from Murmansk to Gijon at $11,50.

For Pacific Panamax business, the 2008-built 82,354 dwt Hong Jing has
reportedly
fixed to a Chinese charterer for April 27 delivery retro-Haldia on a trip via
east coast South America with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $14,000 daily.

Louis Dreyfus agreed $12,500 daily for the 2002-built 75,957 dwt Red Seto
with
May 15-20 delivery Port Kelang on a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery Singapore/Japan.

The 1997-built 72,517 dwt Ever Blossom has fixed with Samsun Logix for May
10-15
delivery Xingang on a trip via Abbot Point with redelivery South Korea at
$10,000 daily.

The 1995-built 69,286 dwt Joyous World will earn $10,000 daily from Glencore
for
April 24 delivery retro-Singapore on a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery Singapore-Japan.

The 2009-built 80,317 dwt Lucky Sunday was reported fixed to an unnamed
charterer for prompt delivery Zhangjiagang on a trip via east coast Australia
with redelivery India at $9,500 daily.

An undisclosed charterer has taken the 2010-built 79,649 dwt Giewont for May
11
delivery Ulsan on a trip via NoPac with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $9,000
daily.

Noble was the charterer of the 2011-built 92,500 dwt Lara Venture for May 03
delivery retro-passing Singapore on a trip via east coast South America ,
Jeddah and Aqaba, with redelivery Cape Passero at $8,250 daily.

CAPESIZE
========

With most holidays over in the Atlantic and Pacific basins, traders were back
at
their desks and there was more activity noted.  Some limited improvement
showed
for the Atlantic Capesize sector today.  In the Atlantic, trans-Atlantic
rounds
are being talked in the $8,500 daily range, while modern tonnage fixed a trip
out mid-May at $31,000 daily.  From the Pacific, rates trended
sideways/slightly
down despite fresh inquiry.  Voyage business Dampier/Qingdao dropped from
around
$7,60 to $7,50 today.  There was also some new interest in period tonnage
seen.
 The Baltic Capesize index was up 49 to 1625.

In the Atlantic, the 2011-built 180,079 dwt Bunge-relet Hebei Joyce has
reportedly fixed to Yangtze Navigation for May 18-20 delivery Rotterdam on a
trip via Baltimore with redelivery China at $31,000 daily.

For voyage business, Solebay was linked with a TBN for June 16-25 loading
150,000 tons 10% coal from Richards Bay to Fangcheng at $13,50.

Out of the Pacific, the 2001-built 169,770 dwt Alpha Cosmos has fixed with STX
Pan Ocean for spot delivery South Korea in d/c for 4-6 months trading with
redelivery worldwide at $11,750 daily.

It emerged that Rio Tinto took the 1996-built Jag Arjun yesterday for May
24-29
loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,60.

BHP Billiton reportedly took 2x EDF TBN's for May 18-22 loading 170,000 tons
10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $7,50.

SUPRAMAX/HANDYMAX
=================

There was little concluded business reported for the Atlantic market today,
but
a trip out from the Baltic was done at $19,500 daily for prompt business.
Otherwise, there was talk of eastern Mediterranean/East business having fixed
at about $18,250 daily, but additional details were lacking.  In the Pacific,
rates trended sideways on the lack of activity.  Supramax tonnage fixed
Thailand/Chna business via west Australia at $12,000 daily.The Baltic
Supramax
index inched up 1 to 1119, while the Handysize index moved up 2 to 604.

The Atlantic Handy market heard that the 2011-built 58,680 dwt Equinox
Agnandousa has fixed with an unnamed charterer for May 10-12 delivery aps
Baltic on a trip with redelivery southeast Asia at $19,500 daily.

Pacific Handy business saw PCL take the 2010-built 58,000 dwt K Coral for May
11-15 delivery Kosichang on a trip via west Australia with redelivery China at
$12,000 daily.

The 2003-built 53,806 dwt Nicolaos A has gone to an unnamed charterer for May
05
delivery retro-CJK for a trip via New Zealand with redelivery India at $11,000
daily.
