Pressure remained for business in the Atlantic, with tonnage building and
fresh inquiry still limited. Owners are once again reluctant to fix business into
the Pacific, so charterers may have to pay up to find cover. The Pacific basin
was described as positional, with the market divided softer in the North and
firmer in the South. An east coast Australia round paid $9,750 daily for an LME.
NoPac rounds as concluded were done at $11,000 daily and $9,250 daily for
prompt/mid-May business. Short period business of 3-5 and 4-6 months trading
have seen the mid-to-high $10,000 daily range. The Baltic Panamax index lost
40 to 1350.
In the Atlantic, the 1983-built 61,318 dwt Mighty Michalis for May 10 delivery
passing Canakkale on a trip via the Black Sea with redelivery South Korea at
$23,500 daily.
It emerged that Azure recently fixed the 2011-built 82,200 dwt Captain Antonis
for May 22-25 delivery aps east coast South America on a trip with redelivery
on the Continent at $14,000 daily plus a $400,000 ballast bonus.
The 2010-built 92,500 dwt Proteas went to Cargill for May 10-15 delivery Cape
Passero on a trip via Brazil with redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at $10,000
daily.
An unnamed charterer has fixed the 1994-built 69,274 dwt Joyous Society for
spot delivery Cape Passero for 4-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at
$15,000 daily.
The 2008-built Wu Zhu Hai fixed to Tata for May 13-17 loading 60,000 tons 10%
ore from Mo-I-Rana to Immingham at $9,00.
From the Pacific, the 2006-built 75,740 dwt Maritime Hareshio has gone to
Cosco for May 08 delivery India on a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery Singapore/Japan at $16,750 daily plus a $675,000 ballast bonus.
The 2006-built 83,007 dwt Red Lotus will earn $13,000 daily from Swiss Marine
for prompt delivery Lumut on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery in the
Philippines.
Norden has the 2002-built 75,966 dwt Red Seto or May 12-17 delivery Port Klang
on a trip via Cape Cuvier with redelivery China at $13,000 daily.
The charterer also took the 2001-built 75,961 dwt Maganari for May 13-18
delivery Sual on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery Japan at $12,500 daily.
The 2004-built 76,801 dwt Daiichi-relet Lowlands Ghent was said fixed to a
Japanese charterer for May 13-15 delivery passing Pusan on a trip via NoPac
with redelivery China at $11,000 daily.
CJ International was back in the market, taking the 2010-built 92,500 dwt
Cervia for May 10-12 delivery Singapore on a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery Singapore/Japan at $10,000 daily.
In a correction to an earlier report, the 2011-built 93,216 dwt Welprofit has
gone to an undisclosed charterer for May 15-20 delivery Taichung on a trip via
east coast Australia and redelivery Singapore/Japan at $9,750 daily - cnr
An unnamed charterer took the 2004-built 73,630 dwt Banders for May 10-12
delivery Dalian on a trip via NoPac with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $9,250
daily.
Period business in the Pacific included word that the 2000-built 73,060 dwt
Tai Plenty has gone to an unnamed charterer for May 08 delivery retro-Zhangjiang
for 3-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at $10,800 daily.
The 2001-built 73,435 dwt Zagora has gone to Swiss Marine for March 13
delivery Qingdao for 4-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at $10,500 daily.
CAPESIZE

Capesize business trended sideways as the weekend approached. Details of
concluded business were scarce, but sources indicated there was off-market
activity. In the Atlantic, a trip out from east coast Canada fixed on
subjects at $27,500 daily, while a trans-Atlantic run paid $16,500 daily. In the East
a backhaul round paid $11,250 daily for spot business. The Baltic Capesize
index was off 10 at 1618.
Out of the Atlantic, the 2010-built 178,132 dwt Cavaliere Grazia Bottiglieri
has reportedly fixed on subjects with Noble for spot delivery Hadera on a trip via
east coast Canada with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $27,500 daily.
Windrose has the 2010-built 134,923 dwt Aquitania G for May 20-30 delivery aps
Recalada on a trip with redelivery on the Continent at $16,500 daily.
Japanese charterers were said to have fixed on subjects the 2007-built 177,855
dwt Antonis Angelicoussis for spot delivery north China on a trip via Brazil
with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $10,000 daily.
In voyage business, Kumba took the 2010-built E.R. Beilun for May 19-20
loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao at $14,68.
The Pacific basin saw Classic take the 1999-built 171,101 dwt Anangel Dynasty
for spot delivery Singapore for a trip via the Atlantic with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $11,250 daily.
Voyage business in the East included the 2010-built Jin Lang fixing with Atlas
for May 25-31 loading 100,000 tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at
$12,00.

Rates for Atlantic Handy business continued sideways today as activity from
east coast South America continued to support the market. Out of the U.S. Gulf,
scrap business paid $20,500 daily for a supramax with mid-May delivery.
Period business saw a modern handysize fix 4-7 months trading at $10,250 daily. It
was a very quiet day for the Pacific handy sector. There was some talk of
southeast Asia rounds fixing in the $10,000 daily range, but details were lacking. The
Baltic Supramax index edged up 1 to 1116, while the Handysize index rose 4 to
610 today.
The Atlantic basin saw EMR fix the 2011-built 56,000 dwt Ingwar Selmer for May
17-18 delivery in the U.S. Gulf on a trip with redelivery Turkey at $20,500
daily.
Copenship has the 2006-built 52,447 dwt Vinca for May 14-20 delivery
Coatzacoalcos on a trip with 2-3 laden legs and redelivery in the Atlantic at
$14,000 daily.
The 2006-built 53,000 dwt Spar Draco has fixed to ABT for May 15-17 delivery
Rio Haina for 2 trips via the U.S.Gulf and the Caribbean, with redelivery in the
U.S. Gulf at $13,500 daily.
For Atlantic period business, the 2010-built 33,694 dwt CMB Mae has fixed to
an undisclosed charterer for May 10-12 delivery Agadir for 4-7 months trading
with redelivery in the Atlantic at $10,250 daily.
