Pressure on rates mounts


PANAMAX
=======

Owners appear to have given up the fight to maintain rates, with lower numbers
reported fixed in both basins. In the Atlantic, a trip out Cape Passaro/Japan
via ECSA was done at $17,000 daily on spot/prompt dates.  Growing tonnage
lists and few new cargoes on offer combined to pressure rates. Trans-Atlantic rates
paid $8,500 daily for an LME with spot delivery.  Pacific business saw an east
coast Australia round fix at $8,000 daily.  Period business in the East saw
modern tonnage fix at $9,000 daily for 4-7 months trading, with 3-5 months
trading done at $10,500 daily for spot business.  The Baltic Panamax index
lost another 56 today to end at 1130.

Out of the Atlantic, the 2005-built 76,752 dwt Red Queen reportedly fixed to
Japanese charterers for spot/prompt delivery passing Cape Passero for a trip
via Paranagua with redelivery Japan at $17,000 daily.  The ship was earlier
reported fixed delivery Gibraltar at $17,250 daily, which was incorrect.

The 2000-built 74,333 dwt Navios Magellan was said fixed on subjects to an
unnamed charterer for June 01-05 delivery east coast South America on a trip
with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $16,400 daily plus a $400,000 ballast
bonus.

AC Toepfer has the 2010-built 79,677 dwt Ornak for spot delivery Gibraltar on
a trip via the German North Sea and Jeddah, with redelivery Port Said at $12,250
daily.

Ever Harmony was said to have taken a TBN for spot delivery passing the Cape
of Good Hope on a trip via east coast South America and redelivery
Singapore/Japan
at $12,000 daily plus a $400,000 ballast bonus.

The 2008-built 81,000 dwt Km Mt Jade has gone to Cargill for May 24-26
delivery Pozzalo on a trip via east coast South America on a trip with redelivery
Gibraltar/Skaw at $8,500 daily.

The 2011-built Swiss Marine-relet Magsenger 3 has gone to ArcelorMittal for
June 04-13 loading 110,000 tons 10% coal from Baltimore and Norfolk to Flushing at
$11,00.

The Pacific basin heard that the 2012-built 79,400 dwt Wanisa for May 27-June
01 delivery Huangpu on a trip via east coast Australia with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $8,000 daily.

Period business included reports of the 2005-built 76,286 dwt Kanishka fixing
with Transgrain early this week for spot delivery Quanzhou for 3-5 months
trading with redelivery worldwide at $10,500 daily.

Glencore agreed $9,000 daily for the 2010-built 75,000 dwt Conti Saphir for
May 29-30 delivery Kaohsiung for 4-7 months trading with redelivery worldwide.

Voyage business saw Rio Tinto take a TBN for June 01-10 loading 60,000 tons
10% bauxite from Weipa to Qingdao at $13,25.

CAPESIZE
========

Capesize business in the Atlantic continued to see pressure on rates as more
ships arrived from the East. Trips out are holding under $20,00, while
trans-Atlantic runs have dropped down to $8,75.  In the East, there was not a
lot of concluded business reported, but rates are still easing.  The key west
Australia/China route dropped down to $7,55 today.  The Baltic Capesize index
fell 82 to 1457.

>From the Atlantic, Vale took a Swiss Marine TBN for June 17-20 loading
160,000
tons 10% ore from Tubarao to Qingdao at $19,70.

TKS has the 2011-built CPO Asia for June 20-July 04 loading 170,000 tons 10%
ore from Saldanha to Rotterdam at $9,00.

Cobelfret took a TBN for June 10-17 loading 120,000 tons 10% ore from Port
Cartier to Hamburg and Hansaport at $9,00.

E.On was linked with a TBN for June 14-20 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from
Drummond to Rotterdam at $8,75.

The 2010-built Navios Etoile was reported fixed to TKS for June 15-25 loading
170,000 tons 10% ore from Seven Islands to Rotterdam at $6,00.

In the Pacific, the 2010-built Ocean Duke has gone to BHP Billiton for June
15/onwards loading 170,000 tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $7,60.

Sinosteel has an NCS TBN for June 07-16 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from
Dampier to Qingdao at $7,55.

It emerged that the 1994-built Huikanghai went to DHL for June 10-15 loading
150,000 tons 10% coal from Gladstone to Tianjin at $10,10.

HANDY/SUPRAMAX
==============

Handy business from the U.S. Gulf saw some improvement today as limited
tonnage
availability pushed rates up.  From Tampa to WC India, a supramax was fixed at
a
firm $31,000 daily for end-May delivery, while a trans-Atlantic run paid $27,
000
daily for early June dates. Spot business eased, with rates being talked in
the
$8,000 daily range plus a ballast bonus for an Indonesia/China run.  The
Baltic
Supramax index moved up 4 to 1124, while the Handysize index edged up 1 to
650.

For Atlantic Handy business, Gearbulk agreed $31,000 daily for the 2006-built
55,924 dwt Yasa Ozcan for end-May delivery Tampa on a trip with redelivery
west
coast India at $31,000 daily.

STX Pan Ocean reportedly fixed on subjects the 2010-built 58,000 dwt Isabelita
for June 01-05 delivery in the U.S. Gulf on a trip with redelivery Italy at
$27,000 daily.

The 2007-built 30,611 dwt Kent Tenacious has gone to Pacbasin for June 06-09
delivery aps Recalada on a trip with redelivery Morocco at $20,250 daily.

The 2011-built 34,000 dwt Sea Dolphin C will earn $14,500 daily from Norden
for
spot delivery Jamaica on a trip via the U.S. east coast with redelivery on the
Continent.

MUR was linked on subjects with the 2012-built 58,000 dwt United Amojanda for
early June delivery in the U.S. Gulf on a trip with redelivery to the
Continent
at $12,500 daily plus a $450,000 ballast bonus.

The 2008-built 53,408 dwt UBC Longkou fixed recently with Nordic Bulk for spot
delivery Iceland on a trip with 2-3 laden legs and redelivery in the Atlantic
at $10,750 daily.

For Atlantic voyage business, BST has fixed the 2008-built 53,408 dwt Nordic
Bulk-relet UBC Longkou for May 25-28 loading 41,500 tons scrap stowing 55ft
from Antwerp to the Sea of Marmara at $23,00.

The 2011-built CF Diamond went to Vitol for June 03-12 loading 50,000 tons 10%
coal from Maracaibo to Rotterdam at $22,00.

Pacific supramax tonnage, the 2012-built 58,000 dwt Bulk Honduras earned
$8,000
daily for spot delivery Cebu on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery South
China.

A TBN has reportedly fixed on subjects to an undisclosed charterer for spot
delivery Xingang on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery Thailand at $6,000
daily plus a $70,000 ballast bonus.

For period business in the Pacific, the 2004-built 52,385 dwt Great Legend
went
to Island View Shipping for June 14-20 delivery southeast Africa for 3-6
months
trading and redelivery worldwide at $11,000 daily plus a $350,000 ballast
bonus.

Norden was said to have fixed on subjects the 2006-built 55,400 dwt Fassa for
May 28-31 delivery Tianjin for 4-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at
$10,250 daily.
