Panamax rates dropped as the weekend arrived, with a growing list of tonnage
pressuring rates in all areas. Owners resistance to going East from the
Atlantic has eased, and this has resulted in weakening rates for the
Continent/Mediterranean region. Charterers from east coast South America
continued to source tonnage from the East. Fresh inquiry from Pacific sources
was very limited today, and owners appeared willing to concede on rates to
find cover - particularly for early ships. The Baltic Panamax index fell 25 to
1048 today.
Out of the Atlantic, the 2007-built 76,662 dwt Golden Heiwa was said fixed to
A.C.Toepfer for July 08-13 delivery Lake Charles on a trip via the U.S. Gulf
with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $17,000 daily plus a $700,000 ballast
bonus.
The charterer paid a premium to get the ship.
It emerged that Cobelfret recently fixed the 2004-built 75,750 dwt Ikan Bilis
for July 01-05 delivery SW Pass on a trip with redelivery China at $16,500
daily plus a ballast bonus of $625,000.
Atlantic Coal & Bulk were linked with the 2005-built 76,784 dwt Lowlands Maine
for spot delivery Aughinish on a trip via Murmansk and Israel with redelivery
Cape Passero at $12,500 daily.
The 2012-built 82,000 dwt Glencore-relet Athina Carras has gone to Norden for
June 25-26 delivery Rotterdam for a trip via the Baltic with redelivery on the
Continent at $9,500 daily.
Out of the Pacific, the 2012-built 81,480 dwt Figalia Navigator was fixed on
subjects to Bunge for July 01-15 delivery Singapore on a trip via east coast
South America and redelivery Singapore/Japan at $10,800 daily.
Louis Dreyfus was the charterer of the 2006-buit 75,331 dwt Anastassia for
June
22-24 delivery Kosichang on a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $9,500 daily.
Daebo was linked wit the 2005-built 73,600 dwt Hai Huang Xing for prompt
delivery Singapore on a trip via east coast South America with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $9,000 daily.
The 1997-built 73,751 dwt Elinakos has gone to Koch Carbon for June 24-29
delivery NoPac on a trip with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,250 daily plus
a
$475,000 ballast bonus.
An undisclosed charterer has the 2004-built 76,000 dwt Rosco Sandalwood for
June
25-27 delivery Fangcheng for a trip via east coast South America with
redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,000 daily.
The 2012-built 93,000 dwt Hebei Xingtai was said fixed on subjects to an
unnamed
charterer for June 30/July 01 delivery Hong Kong on a trip via Indonesia with
redelivery South China at $7,500 daily.
In voyage business, ArcelorMittal has a TBN for July 01-10 loading 75,000 tons
10% coal from Dalrymple Bay to Praia Mole at $11,15.
CAPESIZE

Capesize business slid quietly into the weekend. For the Atlantic, a trip out
Tubarao/Qingdao was fixed at $17,25 for mid-July dates. From South Africa to
Korea, a Hanjin TBN will earn $10,85 for 2nd-half July loading. In the East,
Port Hedland/Qingdao business paid $6,85 for July 01-10 loading - with this
number said to be under pressure. The Baltic Capesize index edged up 3 to
1155
.
In the Atlantic, an EdF TBN was said fixed to Cargill for July 10-19 loading
160,000 tons 10% ore from Tubarao to Qingdao at $17,25.
The 1997-built 211,485 dwt SG Enterprise fixed to Hanjin for July 15-30
loading
180,000 tons 10% ore from Saldanha to Pohang at $11,85.
POSCO has a Hanjin TBN for July 15-29 loading 180,000 tons 10% ore from
Saldanha Bay to Pohang at $10,85.
Electrabel agreed $8,25 for a TBN with September 01-30 loading 160,000 tons
10%
coal from Bolivar to Rotterdam at $8,25.
>From the Pacific, Classic Maritime has a TBN for July 01-10 loading 160,000
tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $6,85.
HANDY/SUPRAMAX

Activity slowed for the Atlantic Handy sector today, with rates trending
sideways on the lack of activity. From Colombia to WC India, a 26-year old
vessel was fixed at $12,500 daily for end-June delivery. Spot period business
saw a supramax fix at $17,000 daily for 3-5 months trading. The Pacific basin
also closed the week with very little concluded business reported. There was
talk of S.Korea/India business having fixed in the $9,200 daily range, but
details were lacking. Period interest remained, with 3-5 months fixng modern
tonnage spot at $10,000 daily. The Baltic Supramax index gained 12 to 1179,
while the Handysize index rose 4 to 705.
>From the Atlantic, the 1986-built 26,666 dwt Royal Pearl S will earn $12,500
daily from Noble for end-June delivery aps Barranquila on a trip with
redelivery west coast India.
In period business, the 2005-built 53,284 dwt Port Melbourne has gone to an
unnamed charterer for spot delivery in the U.S. Gulf for 3-5 months trading
with redelivery full Atlantic at $17,000 daily.
The Pacific market included word of the 2012-built 57,000 dwt Pos Aquamarine
fixing to an undisclosed charterer for spot delivery Zhanjiang for 3-5 months
trading and redelivery worldwide at $10,000 daily.
Also unnamed was the charterer of the 2001-built 51,000 dwt Curia with spot
delivery Huangpu for 3-5 months trading at the same rate.
