Capesize rates moving up on fresh inquiry & firmer sentiment


PANAMAX
=======

Panamax rates in both basins trended sideways into the weekend, holding
onto the gains made this week. In the Atlantic rates firmed from east
coast South America and charterers are still drawing tonnage from the
Indian Ocean and S.E. Asia. In the Pacific basin, Indonesia and NoPac
rounds trended sideways into the weekend. Mid-July period business paid
$10,000 daily for 10-14 months trading. The Baltic Panamax index jumped
39 to close the week at 1129.

Atlantic Panamax business saw the 2001-built 74,090 dwt Rodon Amarandon fix to
Copenship for July 16-21 delivery Cape Passero on a trip via Casablanca with
redelivery east coast India via the Cape of Good Hope at $20,000 daily.

Transgrain has the 2011-built 82,500 dwt Yangtze Xinzhong for July 20-30
delivery passing the Cape of Good Hope on a trip via east coast South America
and Iran with redelivery passing Muscat outbound at $13,800 daily plus a
$425,000 ballast bonus.

Bunge agreed $12,000 daily plus a $400,000 ballast bonus for the 2010-built
82,094 dwt Diamantina for July 28-August 02 delivery east coast South America
for a trip with redelivery on the Continent.

The same charterer has the 1999-built 75,608 dwt Carol for July 14-18 delivery
Aughinish for a trip with two laden legs and redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at
$12,000 daily.

Oldendorff was linked with the 2012-built 82,200 dwt Rize for July 13-15
delivery Flushing for a trip with 2 laden legs and redelivery Skaw-Cape
Passero at $12,000 daily.

The 1999-built 74,443 dwt Power Steel went to the same charterer for spot
delivery Jorf Lasfar on a trip with two laden legs, first leg
Trombetas/US Gulf , with redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at $11,000 daily.

An unnamed charterer reportedly took the 2000-built 75,100 dwt Capetan
Tassos for June 28 delivery retro-Singapore on a trip via east coast
South America with redelivery Singapore/Japan at $10,750 daily.

The 1997-built 73,192 dwt Great Jade will earn $9,000 daily plus a $300,000
ballast bonus from Norden for July 24-31 delivery Colombia on a trip with
redelivery Gijon.

Atlantic period business saw Bahri Dry fix the 2009-built 91,913 dwt Sea
Breeze for July 28-August 02 delivery passing South Africa for 17-21 months trading
with redelivery worldwide at $11,000 daily.

Enel was the charterer of the 2006-built Yasa Unity for July 22-31 loading
65,000 tons 10% coal from Puerto Prodeco to La Spezia at $16,00.

The Pacific Panamax market saw the 2000-built 75,100 dwt Capetan Tassos fix to
an unnamed charterer for June 28 delivery retro-Singapore for a trip via east
coast South America with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $10,750 daily.

The 1999-built 72,893 dwt Alpha Happiness went to Noble for July 08-12
delivery passing Singapore on a trip via east coast South America with redelivery in
the Far East at $10,000 daily.

The charterer of the 2009-built 81,932 dwt Kesaria was undisclosed, but fixed
the vessel for July 09-14 delivery passing Singapore on a trip via east coast
South America with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $9,600 daily.

Cargill fixed the 2000-built 74,271 dwt Tian Song Feng for July 05 delivery
CJK on a trip via NoPac with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,000 daily.

The 1987-built 64,428 dwt Ilenao agreed $4,500 daily from an unnamed charterer
for July 09-11 delivery CJK on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery east coast
India.

Also undisclosed was the charterer of the 2000-built 73,747 dwt Jian Hua,
fixing the vessel for July 07-12 delivery Huangpu for 4-6 months trading
with redelivery worldwide at $8,100 daily.

CAPESIZE
========

Capesize business closed the week on a very positive note, with rates
moving up on fresh inquiry and firmer sentiment. Atlantic capesize
business included word of a trip out from the Continent via the USEC to
South Korea done at a good $26,500 daily. In the East, west
Australia/Qingdao voyages moved up into the high-$7,00 range yesterday
and held there today. Talk circulated again of rates done at $8,00 and
higher, but so far no details. The Baltic Capesize index added 38 to
1493.

In the Atlantic, Polaris has the 2006-built 176,925 dwt Cape Trust fixed for
July 07-12 delivery Hamburg on a trip via the U.S.east coast with redelivery
South Korea at $26,500 daily.

Louis Dreyfus has taken a TBN for July 27-August 03 loading 150,000 tons
10% ore from CSN terminal, Brazil to Qingdao at $20,25.

An STX Pan Ocean TBN was reported fixed to Vale for July 20-30 loading 160,000
tons 10% ore from Tubarao to Qingdao at $18,40.

Kumba took the 2011-built STX Pan Ocean-relet Wisdom of Sea 2 fir July 27-30
loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao at $13,05.

From the Pacific, the 1996-built 169,993 dwt Star Yandi (ex-Iron Yandi)
was said fixed to Rio Tinto for July 23-28 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore
from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,90.

The charterer also took the 2004-built Bulk India for July 20-25 loading
160, 000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,50.

BHP Billiton was said to be the charterer of the 2010-built ZOSCO Dalian for
July 21-23 loading 170,000 tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $7,75.

FMG has a TBN for July 16-18 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to
Qingdao at $7,70.


HANDY/SUPRAMAX
==============

Handy tonnage maintained good numbers into the close of the week despite
the slower pace of activity today. There was talk of USG/East business
having been done at $26,000 daily for a supramax, but details were
lacking. A trip out from South Africa to the East via ECSA paid $10,000
daily plus a $330,000 ballast bonus for modern tonnage. There was little
concluded business reported from the Pacific basin, but rates were said
to be holding at last dones. The Baltic Supramax index edged up 3 to
1296, while the Handysize index inched down 2 to 713.

For Atlantic Handy business, the 2011-built 56,617 dwt Menalon has gone to
Cargill for July 15-20 delivery Durban on a trip via east coast South America
with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $10,000 daily plus a $330,000 ballast
bonus.

Setaf was linked with the 2008-built Ecosand G.O. for July 22-30 loading
55,000 tons 10% petcoke from Port Arthur to Jorf Lasfar at $20,25.

Out of the Pacific came word that STX Pan Ocean was the charterer of the
2011-built 58,680 dwt Equinox Agnandousa for spot delivery Kohsichang on a
trip via Indonesia with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,750 daily.
