Rates lost ground in the close of the week for the Atlantic Panamax sector.
Trans-Atlantic runs and trips out were all reported done at easier numbers.
Reported business from east coast South America and the U.S. Gulf continued to
utilize ballasters. Rates in the East trended sideways/firmer from Indonesia
where there was some new business on offer to provide support. There was said
to be some interest in short period tonnage, with $9,150 daily reported for
4-6
months trading, although confirmation was lacking. The Baltic Panamax index
lost 27 to close the week at 1156.
Out of the Atlantic came word of the 1994-built 70,089 dwt Powerful fixing to
ADM for August 09-13 delivery Tampa on a trip with redelivery India at $17,000
daily plus a $700,000 ballast bonus.
Norden was said to have taken the 2003-built 75,834 dwt Red Iris for July
26-27
delivery Cape Passero on a trip via Trombetas with redelivery on the Continent
at $9,250 daily.
The Pacific market saw Klaveness take the 1995-built 75,395 dwt Pacific
Star for July 23-28 delivery Sual on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery
Sual at $10, 500 daily.
EShips has the 1997-built 71,694 dwt Happy Day for prompt delivery aps Bunbury
on a trip via the UAE and redelivery passing Muscat outbound at $10,250 daily
plus a $365,000 ballast bonus.
The 2005-built 82,962 dwt Spring Ocean went to Klaveness for July 20-22
delivery Kobe on a trip via Port Latta with redelivery China at $9,500
daily.
Panacore was linked with the 2012-built 81,336 dwt Prabhu Sumat for July 16
delivery retro-Zhangjiagang on a trip via east coast Australia with redelivery
east coast India at $9,500 daily.
In a correction to an earlier report, the 2012-built 81,600 dwt Navios
Centaurus has gone to CJ Internation for July 24-29 delivery Guangzhou
for a trip via east coast South America with redelivery Singapore-Japan
at $8,800 daily. The business had originally been incorrectly reported
fixed at $8,750 daily.
The 2009-built 82,580 dwt United Journey will earn $8,500 daily from
Oldendorff
for July 23-24 delivery Hong Kong on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery west
coast India.
The 2009-built 91,800 dwt Ocean Breeze fixed to an unnamed charterer for
August
01-05 delivery Kaohsiung on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery
Singapore/Japan
at $8,000 daily.
CAPESIZE
========
Capesize business finished the week largely unchanged on a lack of new
business . In the Atlantic, and Esperance/Qingdao ore cargo was fixed at
$9,70. More forward dates in the East paid $7,05 for Port Hedland/Qingdao
business, while Dampier/Qingdao held at $7,00 for early August loading.
The Baltic Capesize index was unchanged today at 1276.
The Atlantic capesize market saw Bunge take the 1999-built 171,039 dwt
Constantia for August 05-19 loading 150,000 tons 10% coal from Richards Bay to
Fangcheng at $11,00.
Sinoeast fixed an STX Pan Ocean TBN for August 08-17 loading 150,000 tons 10%
ore from Esperance to Qingdao at $9,70.
From the Pacific, Vale was linked with the 2011-built Vanshi for July 26-
August 06 loading 140,000 tons 10% ore from Sohar to Qingdao at $8,50.
BHP Billiton agreed $7,05 for the 2004-built Ocean Queen with August 10-20
loading 170,000 tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao.
Rio Tinto was in the market again to take the 2005-built China Peace for
August
02-06 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,00.
The charterer also has the 2007-built Cargill-relet Boston for August 01-05
loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $7,00.
The 2010-built ZOSCO Huzhou went to the same charterer for August 01-05
loading
160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at the same rate.
SUPRAMAX/HANDYMAX

Handysize tonnage in the Atlantic fixed spot business Turkey/East at a good
$12,000 daily. A supramax fixed Port Sudan/Spore-Japan via the Black Sea at
$14,000 daily for spot business. The start of Ramadan in the East has
reportedly reduced the number of cargoes on offer from Indonesia and this is
said to be pressuring rates in the region as owners seek cover. The Baltic
Supramax index fell 20 to 1192 today, while the Handysize index was off 9 at
657.
For Atlantic Handy business, the 2002-built 48,540 dwt Valiant Star has
reportedly fixed with an undisclosed charterer for end-July delivery
Brownsville on a trip with redelivery Nigeria at $20,000 daily.
The 1998-built 46,193 dwt Great Prestige was said fixed to Transvast for spot
delivery Canakkale on a trip via the Black Sea with redelivery Singapore-Japan
at $19,000 daily.
Sometra reportedly fixed the 1998-built 28,412 dwt Zini for prompt delivery
passing Gibraltar on a trip via French Bay with redelivery West Africa at
$12,000 daily.
From the Pacific, Phaeton has the 2010-built 56,920 dwt Heilan Spring for spot
delivery Port Sudan on a trip via the Black Sea with redelivery
Singapore-Japan
at $14,000 daily.
Noble agreed $9,000 daily for the 2012-built 56,659 dwt K Peridot with spot
delivery Singapore on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery Thailand.
Siva Bulk proved to be the charterer of the 2011-built 56,793 dwt He Bo
for July 24-28 delivery Zhoushan on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery
west coast India at $8,750 daily.
The same charterer took the 2011-built 56,880 dwt Pintail for July 21-22
delivery Jintang on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery full India at a low
$7,500 daily.
An unnamed charterer fixed the 2004-built 52,471 dwt Sea Lantana for July
25-26
delivery Lanshan on a trip with redelivery in the Persian Gulf at $8,500
daily.
