Easier rates emerging in Atlantic Handy market


PANAMAX
=======

A lack of fresh inquiry and abundant tonnage plus ballasters kept the pressure
on rates in the Atlantic.  From east coast South America, an LME has fixed
early August delivery Recalada to the Continent at $9,000 daily plus a $180,000 bb.
For the Pacific basin, rates were said to be easing, with some fixing and
failing reported.  Some new business still from Indonesia to India, with
modern tonnage fixed at $12,250 daily for late-July/early-August delivery.  The
Baltic Panamax index has lost 30 to 1058.

Out of the Atlantic came word that the 2005-built 76,469 dwt Medi Baltimore
has
gone to an unnamed charterer for August 16-21 delivery aps east coast South
America for a trip with redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at $9,500 daily plus a
$300,000 ballast bonus.

The 2010-built 76,000 dwt Jia Foison was reported fixed to United for August
06-10 delivery Vitoria for a trip with redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at $9,500
daily plus a ballast bonus of $235,000.

Windrose was the charterer of the 2012-built 87,300 dwt Efessos Wave for
August
01-05 delivery aps Recalada on a trip with redelivery on the Continent at $9,
000 daily plus a $180,000 ballast bonus.

Pacific Panamax business included word of Siva Bulk taking the 2012-built 74,

dwt Iolcos Unity for July 21-August 04 delivery Surabaya for a trip via
Indonesia with redelivery full India at $12,250 daily.

The charterer was also linked with the 2011-built 93,347 dwt Spring Wealth for
July 27-28 delivery Dahej for a trip via west coast India and redelivery China
at $9,750 daily.

It emerged that the 2009-built 83,690 dwt Prabhu Shakti fixed to STX Pan Ocean
recently for July 25-26 delivery Fukuyama for a trip via NoPac with redelivery
South Korea at $9,000 daily - a rate now likely unrepeatable.

Oldendorff took the 1998-built 72,413 dwt Aenaos for prompt delivery east
coast
India in d/c for a trip via east coast South America with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $8,500 daily.

For voyage business, Pioneer Navigation has an NYK TBN for August 08-14
loading
60,000 tons 5% bauxite from Kamsar to Aughinish at $11,25.

CAPESIZE
========

Atlantic Capesize business trended sideways on a lack of direction today,
while in the East rates dipped again.  The key West Australia/Qingdao route has now
fixed on subjects at a lower $6,50 for mid-August dates, although details were
lacking.  The Baltic Capesize index fell a further 15 to 1224 today.

In the Atlantic, the 2010-built Cosco-relet Samjohn Solidarity has fixed with
Oldendorff for August 03-08 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Tubarao to
Qingdao at $18,10.

Kumba has a TBN for end-August loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Saldanha Bay
to Qingdao at $12,30.

Cargill also took a TBN for second-half August loading 150,000 tons 10% coal
from Richards Bay to Rotterdam at $6,10.

For the Pacific market, Classic Maritime was linked with the 2006-built
180,211
dwt Mineral Kyushu with spot delivery Qingdao for about 4-7 months trading
with
redelivery worldwide at $10,600 daily.

The charterer was also said to have taken the 2004-built 180,310 dwt Mineral
Kyoto for prompt delivery in the Far East for the same period and redelivery
worldwide at $10,500 daily.

In voyage business, Libra has the 1991-built Fengli 1 for July 28-August 04
loading 140,000 tons 10% coal from Bunyu to Mundra at $6,15.


HANDY/SUPRAMAX
==============

It would appear that the Atlantic Handy market has finally given way, with
talk of easier rates emerging.  While details were hard to come by, there was talk
of a USG/Turkey run with petcoke having fixed at $18,000 daily - but this
could not be confirmed.USG/Far East business was being talked under $23,000 daily - but
again details were lacking.  From the Pacific there was no better news.
Supramax tonnage has reportedly fixed spot Xingang/EC India via China at a
lower $5,600 daily.  In the Indian Ocean, a backhaul round via S.Africa to
Singapore/Japan reportedly paid a supramax $9,500 daily plus a $250,000 bb.
However, once again this was not confirmed.  The Baltic Supramax index dropped
34 to 1099, while the Handysize index lost 14 to 617.

For Atlantic Handy business, the 2008-built 53,632 dwt Magnum Power went to
Aquavita with spot delivery in the Black Sea for a trip with redelivery in the
Persian Gulf at $27,000 daily.

An undisclosed charterer agreed $26,500 daily for the 2012-built 58,000 dwt
Bulk Costa Rica for delivery aps Orinoco on a trip with redelivery China.

Pacific Handy business included reports of the 2003-built 53,035 dwt Ocean
Prefect fixing to an unnamed charterer for July 27-29 delivery Hong Kong on a
trip via South China with redelivery east coast India at $9,500 daily.

The charterer of the 2004-built 52,810 dwt Kang Huan was not named, but fixed
the vessel for spot delivery Cigading on a trip via Australia with redelivery
Singapore-Japan at $9,000 daily.

The 2011-built 56,854 dwt Christine Star will earn $6,500 daily from an
undisclosed charterer for July 28-30 delivery Lanshan on a trip via China with
redelivery east coast India.
