Panamax owners resisting further rates drop


PANAMAX
=======

Atlantic Panamax business closed the week off last dones. Trans-Atlantic
runs continued to be very scarce and charterers are pressing hard for
further reductions from owners. Owners are digging in and so far
resisting any further attempts to push rates down. Fronthaul business was
described as positional and limited. An LME was said done at $14,500
daily plus a $475,000 bb for August 20-30 delivery ECSA. In the Pacific
basin, rates eased and the volume of available tonnage is likely to weigh
on the market next week. The Baltic Panamax index lost ground again, off
21 to 910.

For Atlantic Panamax business, Beibu Gulf was linked with the 2004-built
76,801 dwt Pos Courage for August 20-30 delivery aps east coast South
America on a trip with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $14,500 daily plus a
$475,000 ballast bonus.

An undisclosed charterer reportedly fixed the 1987-bult 69,230 dwt Maria V for
prompt delivery Stade on a trip via the Baltic and India with redelivery Cape
Town at $11,750 daily.

The 2008-built 76,000 dwt Ostria S has gone to Glencore for spot delivery
Immingham on a trip via the Baltic and Iran with redelivery passing Durban at
$11,000 daily.

The 2011-built 75,617 dwt Ocean Qingdao went to the same charterer for
August 05-10 delivery Immingham for a trip with 2-3 laden legs and
redelivery Skaw-Cape Passero at $8,000 daily.

Transbulk has the 1994-built 72,873 dwt Premnitz for August 06-11 delivery
Hamburg for a trip via the Baltic with redelivery UK-Continent at $7,500
daily.

The Pacific Panamax market saw Siva Bulk fix the 2010-built 93,038 dwt
Scandinavian Express for August 14-18 delivery aps Indonesia on a trip with
redelivery India at $7,250 daily plus a ballast bonus of $110,000.

The 2011-built 79,224 dwt Veenus has gone to the same charterer for
August 05-10 delivery CJK on a trip with redelivery India at $6,000
daily.

Glencore agreed $7,000 daily for the 2010-built 80,283 dwt Inspiration for
spot delivery Mokpo on a trip via Hay Point with redelivery east coast India.

The 2008-built 91,442 dwt Ocean Breeze went to Daiichi for Augusut 07-12
delivery Villaneuva on a trip with redelivery Japan at $5,500 daily plus a
ballast bonus of $70,000.

Oldendorff was in the market to take the 2011-built 80,443 dwt Wadi Alkarm for
August 05-10 delivery Qinhuangdao on a trip with redelivery India at $5,000
daily.

CAPESIZE
========

The Atlantic basin closed the week very quietly, with a Richards Bay/Rotterdam
cargo fixed at $6,00 for August 05-19 loading.  Rates continued to improve in
the Pacific basin as the week drew to a close and the big names came back into
the market.  The key West Australia/Qingdao run has now seen $6,75 for August
20-24 loading.  Some interest in period tonnage resurfaced, with 8-12 months
trading done at $9,300 daily.  The Baltic Capesize index rose 22 to close the
week at 1200.

In the Atlantic, TTMI took a SwissMarine TBN for August 05-19 loading 150,000
tons 10% coal from Richards Bay to Rotterdam at $6,00.

From the Pacific, Rio Tinto has fixed the 2005-built 180,201 dwt Ocean
Shine for August 20-24 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to
Qingdao at $6,75.

The charterer also has the 2011-built Philippos A and the 2012-built K.
Endeavour each for August 16-21 and August 16-20 loading 160,000 10% ore
respectively from Dampier to Qingdao at $6,50.

The 2012-built Global Talent went to the same charterer for August 16-20
loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao at $6,45.

BHP Billiton was said to have taken a TBN for August 20-30 loading 170,000
tons 10% ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $6,65.

Period business in the East saw the 2010-built 180,000 dwt Cape Venture go to
Classic Maritime with August 10-12 delivery Qingdao for 8-12 months trading
and redelivery worldwide at $9,300 daily.

HANDY/SUPRAMAX
==============

Rates in the Atlantic Handy sector were steady/trending down in the close
of the week. A USG/Continent run paid $11,000 daly for a 14-year-old
vessel with August 10-12 delivery. A trip out from Gresik to east coast
India via Indonesia paid $11,000 daily for spot delivery. In the East,
short period business of 3-5 months trading has been done at $8,500 daily
plus a $125,000 ballast bonus. The Baltic Supramax index fell 13 to 1010,
while the Handysize index lost 6 to 552.

The Atlantic Handy market included reports of the 1998-built 47,500 dwt
Song Hai fixing to Energy for August 10-12 delivery Houston on a trip
with redelivery on the Continent at $11,000 daily.

Siva Bulk has the 2011-built 56,808 dwt AS Valencia for spot delivery Gresik
on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery east coast India at $11,000 daily.

The 2012-built 56,000 dwt APJ Shirin will earn $8,000 daily plus a $250,000
ballast bonus from Lighthouse Navigation for August 15-19 delivery aps South
Africa for a trip with redelivery east coast India.

Refined Success was said to be the charterer of the 2010-built 57,809 dwt
Gannet Bulker for prompt delivery aps Conakry on a trip with redelivery
in the Black Sea at $7,750 daily.

Pacific business saw Norden linked with the 2004-built 48,821 dwt Hyundai
Treasure with August 08-11 delivery Maputo for 3-5 months trading and
redelivery worldwide at $9,000 daily plus a $145,000 ballast bonus.
