Capesize owners giving ground

PANAMAX
=======

Panamax business slid quietly into the weekend, with fresh inquiry slow
to emerge in the Atlantic. Ballasters to the US Gulf and east coast South
America continued to weigh on the markets there. A Cont/Liverpool via
Murmansk trip was reported done at $6,500 daily, but this rate is likely
unrepeatable now. With rates easing in the Pacific too, owners are still
willing to ballast away and chance the Atlantic. Typhoon weather may
bring a flurry of activity from China into the market next week if ships
are unable to make their laycans. The Baltic Panamax index was off 9 to
814 today.

Out of the Atlantic, the 1995-built 73,081 dwt Ever Young went to Yangtze
Navigation for August 31-September 06 delivery South West Pass on a trip

CAPESIZE
========

Atlantic Capesize business was quiet again today, with rates still under
pressure and owners giving ground. Tubarao/Qingdao business paid about
$17,25, while PDM/Taranto saw an easier $6,57. There was an uptick in
Pacific activity today as some of the major players jumped back into the
market. However, this was not sufficient to support rates and they eased
again. West Australia/China business was done as low as $6,70 today. Some
renewed interest was reported for period tonnage, but details were
lacking. The Baltic Capesize index fell 23 to 1169 today.
