Piraeus Container Terminal records 54.9 pct handling increase

The Piraeus Container Terminal has recorded a 54.9 pct handling increase in the first five months of the year (2012). Data released by the Piraeus Port Authority reveal that a total of 293.874 TEU's were handled from January to May 2012 compared to 189.706 TEU's in the corresponding period last year.

Piraeus Port Authority Chairman Giorgos Anomeritis stated: "Despite the deep crisis in freight transport and a serious reduction of imports and exports in Greece, the Piraeus Container Terminal has been reinforced with new machinery, cranes etc. and continues its upward trend after the crisis that followed the separation of piers in 2009".
