Maran Tankers linked to SAMCO ASIA acquisition


Broker reports suggest Maran Tankers has acquired tanker vessel SAMCO ASIA (dwt 305000 blt 2003 S.Korea) for USD 35.5 million.

Reports also suggest a Greek player is behind the purchase of tanker vessel ST.PAULI (dwt 47149 blt 2003 Japan) for a reported USD 14 million.

In the bulker segment, Greeks have moved for bulker HONESTY OCEAN (dwt 47240 blt 1997 Japan) for a reported USD 8.25 million. 


Tankers

Fewer oil tankers are being used to store crude than traders and shipbrokers had expected at the start of the year, as a recent run-up in oil prices upended a popular trading strategy.
Rates for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) on key Asian routes could recover next week if chartering activity rises with China’s return from the Lunar New Year holidays.

Alongside this, crude tanker sale and purchase activity during 2014 was particularly remarkable, with 170 crude tankers of a combined 35.7m dwt reportedly sold, more than double the volume of crude tonnage sold in 2013.
