SafeBulkers posts Q1 results; orders two eco-design newbuild Panamax class vessels

Safe Bulkers announced its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2013. Net income for the first quarter of 2013 decreased by 25% to $16.1 million from $21.6 million during the same period in 2012. Adjusted EBITDA(1) for the first quarter of 2013 decreased by 14% to $27.4 million. Dr. Loukas Barmparis, President of the Company, said: "Our Board of Directors has declared our twentieth consecutive dividend since our IPO in the amount of $0.05 per share. We continue to be focused on reducing our counterparty risk through early redeliveries while strengthening our cash position..."

Navios goes for secondhand tankers - brokers
Navios has made a move in the secondhand market for two tanker vessels, according to latest broker reports. The KUROSHIO EXPRESS (dwt 47.999 blt 2005 Japan) and ORANGE EXPRESS (dwt 47.999 blt 2005 Japan) tanker vessels have been bought at a cost of USD 16.5 million.

Fearnleys Weekly: Norden orders 13 vessels
Active on the bulker side. Dansish Norden today announced a total of 13 vessels. Two kamsarmaxes and four supramaxes will be built at different yards in Japan and at the same time another two kamsarmaxes and five supramaxes will be chartered in long term with purchase options.

Golden Ocean moves for Navios-linked Magnolia
John Fredriksen-linked shipowner Golden Ocean has acquired for the 180,000-dwt Magnolia (built 2009 S. Korea) which brokers had heavily linked to Navios Group of Greece. Reports suggest the deal will cost approximately USD 33.6 million.

Diana Agrees Charter Deal for M/V BALTIMORE with RWE
Diana Shipping, a global shipping company specializing in the ownership and operation of dry bulk vessels, today announced that it has entered into a time charter contract with RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, Essen, Germany, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, for one of its Capesize dry bulk carriers, the m/v “Tamou” (to be renamed “Baltimore”).

Embiricos orders two containerships at Hyundai Samho
Only few ships reported this week. HMD introducing a new series of 87,000 dwt bulkers. The ships was reported at USD 33.5 mill, and will be delivered end of 2016. Prices are still sliding sideways, with yards chasing buyers for new ECO friendly ship designs. Embiricos has placed an order at Hyundai Samho for 2 containerships (USD 81 mln, delivery 2014).

Ultrabulk continues fleet expansion
In addition to the announcement covering three newbuilding units made by Ultrabulk on March 19th, Ultrabulk now confirms having added five further units to its long term fleet. The new units are one additional 61,000tdw Supramax bulker to be built at a Japanese yard and scheduled for delivery 2016, joined by another 81,000tdw Kamsarmax bulker for delivery in 2015.

Rights offering to bring 6 Supramaxes for Starbulk - analyst
Star Bulk Carriers should acquire up to six supramaxes when it concludes a rights offering, according to an analyst at Arctic Securities. In a note to clients Erik Nikolai Stavseth applauded the fundraiser, in which the Nasdaq-listed owner of 13 bulkers expects to raise between $75 and $125m.
