Teekay orders up to 16 Aframax tankers at STX
STX is reported to have secured a substantial order from Teekay for potentially upto 16 Aframax size tankers if all options declared. Furthermore Owners have option to convert vessels into LR-2 type. STX Dalian on their part added four Capesize bulkers to their orderbook as Frontline 2012 declared their options. Another Fredriksen related company, Golden Ocean, went to JMU for two 60,000 dwt bulkers. Interesting to note Japanese owners went to Hantong, China, for similar type of vessels.

Navios Acquisition Announces Acquisition of 5 (+2) MR2 Product Tankers


Navios Acquisition, an owner and operator of tanker vessels, announced today that it agreed to acquire five MR2 product tankers for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $143.8 million. Angeliki Frangou, Chairman and CEO, commented, "We have been able to put the net proceeds of our recent equity raising to good work, by acquiring vessels that were available at favorable prices. We anticipate chartering these vessels out shortly and will update investors once we secure charters that we find attractive in the current market."

STX Offshore seeks self-rescue plan
In the latest sign of its deteriorating financial status, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said that it has submitted a voluntary debt-rescheduling plan to its creditors as part of efforts to receive fresh loans.

K Line announced that an agreement is to be made with Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., on long-term Time Charter of a new 164,700m3 Moss type LNG carrier and execute Shipbuilding Contract for it with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI).

Technomar goes for secondhand boxship - brokers
A Greek owner has placed an order at Sinopacific (China) for an 82,000 dwt bulker, according to broker reports. The price of the newbuilding has not been disclosed. In the secondhand market this week, Technomar has reportedly acquired containership THORSCAPE (2,908 dwt blt 1997 S.Korea) at an undisclosed price.

Scorpio to Construct 6 LR2 Newbuildings
Scorpio Tankers announced today that it has (i) agreed to construct six additional LR2 Newbuildings, (ii) taken delivery of its seventh Newbuilding MR product tanker, STI Emerald and (iii) time chartered-in one handymax and two LR2 product tankers.

Fourth high-speed support vessel for Marineco The ‘Marineco Thunderbird’ is UK based Marineco’s fourth FCS 2610 Twin Axe. Marineco was the first customer to buy one of these vessels nearly two and a half years ago, based on a design for an Offshore and Offshore Wind support vessel which Damen really believed in.
