The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced that a record number of Europeans (6.6 million) travelled with cruiseships in 2015, a 3 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The European cruise market has grown steadily since 2008 by an overall 49 percent proving the industry’s durability in the economic recession and the value in cruise holidays.
The growth marked is equivalent to 6 percent annually in the last seven years.
The CEO of CLIA, Mr. Kyriacos Anastasiadis told the World Cruise Conference in Fort Lauderdale, US: The statistics released today confirm the industry’s great presence in Europe. Cruising is an ideal holiday choice and every year all the more people realize its great value and the amazing experiences offered by holidays on a cruise ship. This helps us emerge as the ideal choice for holidays. As a new industry that represents a small percentage of holiday travel, our opportunities to grow in Europe and the rest of the world are almost unlimited.
