Greek owners agree new 10% dividend tax

The Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) has reached an agreement with the Greek government to change the way the industry is taxed.

According to UGS president Theodore Veniamis, owners will be charged a 10% dividend tax, instead of a double tonnage tax applied temporarily. The new regime will be more in line with European Union rules, addressing concerns raised by a relevant Brussels investigation.

Speaking to UGS members this week, Veniamis also stressed that the Greek fleet has continued to grow over the past year.
