Port of Long Beach Sets Cargo Record

Cargo volumes at Port of Long Beach during the month of September set a record during the past quarter with more than 2 million container units moving through the port.

“In recent months, Long Beach has seen a robust return of once-diverted cargo,” port Chief Executive Jon Slangerup said in a statement. “We greatly appreciate our shippers’ continued confidence in the Port of Long Beach.”

Measured by individual containers of freight, cargo volume at the Port of Long Beach climbed 4.1 percent in September compared to the same period last year to 655,624 TEUs.

Through the first nine months of 2015 the Port has seen a 5.2 percent increase in cargo volume compared to the same period last year.

If the current trend continues, the Long Beach port would have its annual cargo volume exceed 7 million standard containers units for the first time since 2007.
