Shipping a crucial sector in post-bailout Greece – Kouvelis

“The shipping sector constitutes one of Greece’s most important comparative advantages and for this reason we must pay attention to it and to opportunities opening in this particular sector,” Greek Shipping Minister Fotis Kouvelis said Thursday addressing the 18th Shipping Forum of the Institute of Maritime and Economic strategy.

Kouvelis added that an essential prerequisite is the constant updating and training of crews, the introduction of new technology and the provision of latest information in all the sectors of the shipping industry.

“Now that we are leaving behind the crisis and we are gradually getting into a phase of growth, we must promote our comparative advantages with clarity and rigour, in order to make the Greek economy competitive at regional as well as at international level,” he noted.
