The capesize bulker segment once again took centre stage in discussions on the future of the dry bulk market, during the Dry Bulk Sector Panel at the Capital Link Singapore Maritime Forum.

Stamatis Tsantanis, Chief Executive Officer of Seanergy Maritime Holdings, argued that the market’s key support today is not only demand, but primarily supply tightness. As he noted, the capesize segment is facing constrained capacity availability—among the lowest levels of the past 20–25 years—with an orderbook representing just 8%–12% of the fleet and an average fleet age of around 15 years.

This implies that, over the coming years, a significant portion of the existing fleet will require either substantial capital investment or replacement, a dynamic that continues to underpin a strong investment case for the sector.
