The value of new cruise ships currently on order worldwide has reached $87.4 billion, with the orderbook standing at 80 vessels and an investment programme extending more than a decade into the future.

According to the latest report by Cruise Industry News, the orderbook is expanding both in value and in terms of its time frame, with scheduled deliveries now extending through to 2039.

Specifically, the total orderbook represents 227,504 new berths, while the average cruise ship under construction has a gross tonnage of 121,154 GT and can accommodate around 2,844 passengers. The average construction cost has now exceeded $1.09 billion per ship, while average investment per berth stands at $384,068, reflecting the increasingly high technological and construction costs of the new fleet.

The same data indicate that the greatest concentration of deliveries is expected over the next few years. For 2027, 15 ships with a combined value of $11.3 billion are scheduled for delivery, followed by another 13 vessels worth $11.4 billion in 2028.

Investment activity is particularly strong in 2030, with the programme comprising 12 new vessels at a total cost of $15.3 billion, bringing the average cost to $1.27 billion per ship.
