Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. announced that the naming ceremony for a newbuilding LNG carrier was held at a Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. facility in South Korea on September 9, 2026. The newbuilding LNG carrier, owned through a joint venture*1 with Toho LNG Shipping Co., Ltd. (Toho LNG Shipping), a wholly owned subsidiary of Toho Gas Co., Ltd., (Toho Gas), was named TOHO EMERALD.*2
The vessel will play an important role in supporting the global energy supply chain through the transportation of LNG, including services for Toho Gas. Equipped with an ME-GA dual-fuel engine designed to operate primarily on LNG, the vessel will achieve highly efficient operation and contribute to the reduction of environmental impact. Combining excellent exhaust gas performance and economic efficiency, the vessel is scheduled to operate as a state-of-the-art vessel supporting next-generation LNG transportation services.
In its Medium-Term Management Plan published in May 2022,*3 “K” LINE has positioned the LNG carrier business as one of the businesses driving its growth. Through long-term contracts, “K” LINE will seek to stabilize earnings, accommodate the growing demand for energy, and advance its growth strategy by responding to the diverse needs of customers.
