Contships Logistics, owned by Nikolas D. Pateras, is moving ahead with a major shipbuilding programme that could eventually comprise up to 30 feeder containerships.

Specifically, CLC Newbuildings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Contships Logistics Corp., has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Hubei Guangji Green Energy Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd. for the construction of 10 next-generation 1,300-TEU containerships, with options for an additional 10 plus 10 vessels.

The vessels will be based on the “ContshipMax CV1300” design, developed in cooperation with SDARI, featuring a capacity of 1,324 TEU, 340 reefer plugs, high operational flexibility, as well as significantly improved fuel consumption and emissions-related energy efficiency. Their dimensions have been specifically optimised for the requirements of international feeder shipping.

The vessels will be equipped with Mitsubishi Tier III-compliant main engines, advanced low-pressure SCR technology, Daihatsu auxiliary engines, a shaft generator and energy-saving systems.

According to the company, this combination creates a modern and efficient platform designed with a focus on reliability, reducing its environmental footprint and meeting the growing demands of global feeder shipping. The vessels will be built at Hubei Guangji Green Energy Shipbuilding Group’s next-generation shipyard, which combines modern automated production facilities in a strategic partnership with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding & Offshore Project Management Co., Ltd. The cooperation brings together Contships’ extensive expertise in feeder containerships with a modern Chinese shipyard backed by one of China’s leading shipbuilding groups.

The shipbuilding programme marks an important step in Contships’ long-term fleet renewal strategy and, according to the company, confirms its continued commitment to investing in efficient and modern tonnage to serve the global feeder containership market.

Contships Logistics Corp. is a shipping company specialising in feeder containerships, with an exclusive focus on vessels ranging from 900 to 2,000 TEU. The company currently operates a fleet of 27 feeder containerships.
