Diana Shipping CEO Semiramis Paliou outlined the five key challenges shaping the future of the dry bulk market at the North Bund International Shipping Forum 2026 in Shanghai.
Speaking on the opportunities and challenges facing dry bulk shipping amid geopolitical shifts, Paliou highlighted geopolitical instability, fleet supply, changes in demand, decarbonisation and the shortage of seafarers. Each challenge, she noted, also creates opportunities to strengthen resilience, discipline, diversification and efficiency.
She placed particular emphasis on human capital, underlining the need to attract a new generation of seafarers and retrain crews to operate “smart” ships and work with new fuels.
Investing in seafarers, she stressed, is the most reliable investment a shipping company can make.
