DryDel Shipping’s strategy for renewing its fleet and strengthening its competitiveness was outlined by the company’s chief executive, Costas Delaportas, at the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Japan 2026 in Tokyo.
Speaking in a discussion on the future of shipping, geopolitical developments and artificial intelligence, Delaportas stressed that the human factor remains critical despite rapid technological advances.
Investing in modern, energy-efficient newbuildings, he said, ensures not only lower emissions but also commercial competitiveness for the next 15 to 20 years.
He made particular reference to Japanese shipyards, highlighting their quality, reliability and the long-standing relationships of trust they have built with shipowners. “We are not buying today’s market. We are buying tomorrow’s fleet,” he said.
