Drewry: World Container Index down 1.3%


The World Container Index assessed by Drewry, a composite of container freight rates on 8 major routes to/from the US, Europe and Asia, is down 1.3% to US$1476.90/40ft container [week commencing Monday, 13 Mar 17].

The composite index has softened since January, but remains 111% higher than this time last year.

The average composite index of the World Container Index assessed by Drewry for the year to date is US$1,253/40ft container, lower than the 5-year average of $1,697/40ft container.

The market remains highly volatile, with rates from Rotterdam to Shanghai up 45% this week.
