Maran Dry Management has signed an agreement to build four capesize bulk carriers – with options for two more – at Chinese shipyard Hengli Heavy Industry, according to shipping sources.

Hengli’s parent company, Songfa Ceramics, announced the contracts as part of a broader package to build 17 ships worth between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion.

The order is the Greek company’s first bulker newbuilding contract in almost a decade.
