Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 20th that it won an order for seven container carriers from a shipowner in Asia for 1.922 trillion won. The ships are scheduled to be delivered to the owner sequentially by Nov. 2029.

Samsung Heavy Industries said orders for container carriers have been increasing, centered on liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel propulsion ships, as eco-friendly demand has recently grown.

Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has won a total of $6.9 billion (10.13 trillion won) in orders this year. By ship type, it won orders for seven LNG carriers, nine shuttle tankers, nine container ships, two ethane carriers, 11 crude oil carriers, and one preliminary work contract for an offshore production facility, for a total of 39 ships.

The accumulated order backlog to date is 132 ships, $28.2 billion (about 41.4 trillion won).

A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, “We are securing a stable pipeline of quality work in the merchant ship sector and are continuing an order strategy focused on profitability,” and added, “If we complete the offshore project (FLNG) contract planned within the year, achieving this year’s order target should be within reach.”
