A fresh wave of attacks on commercial shipping has heightened concerns over maritime security as conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East continue to escalate.
Over the weekend, four Greek-linked tankers were reportedly struck in two of the world’s most strategically important shipping corridors. According to reports, the first two incidents occurred at the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, where the tankers ASIA and NISSOS IOS were reportedly damaged during attacks in the area.
At the same time, two other Greek-linked tankers were reportedly targeted in the Strait of Hormuz amid renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, underscoring the growing security risks in the world’s most critical oil shipping chokepoint.
The four incidents within a single weekend highlight the mounting threats facing global merchant shipping and the disproportionate exposure of the Greek-owned fleet, which maintains a significant presence in both crude oil transportation from the Persian Gulf and shipping operations in the Black Sea.
