The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index .BADI, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose on Monday, buoyed by a jump in the capesize vessel segment.
* The overall index .BADI, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, rose 17 points, or 1%, to 1,708.
* The capesize index .BACI added 57 points, or about 2.3%, to 2,594.
* Average daily earnings for capesize vessels .BATCA, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes, such as iron ore and coal, increased $473 to $21,510.
* The panamax index .BPNI lost 8 points, or 0.5%, to 1,544 points.
* Average daily earnings for panamax vessels .BPWT, which usually carries about 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain cargo, decreased $70 to $13,900.
* Among smaller vessels, the supramax index .BSIS was up 1 points at 1,305.
