Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Company, has sealed a newbuilding contract with Greek shipowner Dynacom for the construction of 12 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).

Valued at nearly RMB10 billion ($1.47 billion), the landmark deal incorporates partial RMB settlement arrangements to effectively hedge exchange rate volatility risks and optimises overall project profitability.

The twelve new VLCCs will feature a state-of-the-art 307,000 dwt design, equipped with optimised hull lines customized to suit the owner’s berth operational conditions. Integrated with high-efficiency propellers and advanced energy-saving appendages, the vessels achieve industry-leading fuel efficiency. Its innovative lightweight structural design further enhances construction efficiency while ensuring structural reliability.

Powered by WinGD main engines and fitted with scrubbers and high-pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, the vessels fully comply with the latest IMO emission regulations and green shipping standards.

Construction of the first vessel is scheduled to commence in October 2027.

Hudong-Zhonghua has established outstanding track records across high-tech, high-value ship segments, with continuous capability upgrades in the construction of mega LNG carriers and ultra-large container vessels in recent years.
