Evergreen orders 23 boxships at two shipyards

Evergreen Marine has proceeded shipbuilding orders for 23 vessels with two Chinese shipyards worth up to approximately $1.5 billion.

The contracts were approved by Evergreen directors this week.

The larger of the two deals is with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for 16 3,100-TEU container ships. The order is worth between $736 million and $896 million.

The contract with Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, valued between $469 million and $574 million, is for seven 5,900-TEU ships.
