A joint venture between maritime and offshore supplier Exmar LPG and parent company Seapeak (formerly Teekay LNG Partners) has placed orders for cargo handling and fuel supply systems on two newbuild LPG gas carrier vessels currently under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in South Korea, with an option for two more vessels.
When completed, the 46,000-m3 capacity vessels will be among the largest midsize LPG carriers in the world. Wärtsilä recently supplied a similar contract for a series of Exmar vessels built at the Jiangnan shipyard in China.
“There is increasing demand for efficient and well-designed gas carriers, and these two vessels are designed to the latest standards,” HMD senior engineer Jae Woon Kim said. “The equipment selected is the latest and most advanced technology.”
The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the yard late 2023.
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions’ main focus areas are handling gas in seaborne transport (storage, fuel, transfer and boil-off gas management systems), gas to power, liquefaction and biogas solutions.
