A high-level Indian delegation led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh has examined opportunities to strengthen Greek-Indian cooperation in shipbuilding and the defence industry.
The visit also highlighted the partnership with ACT Infraport to develop a shipbuilding facility in India, drawing on Greek expertise.
The visit took place as Greece and India seek to further strengthen their strategic and defence ties, with particular emphasis on maritime security, the defence industry, shipbuilding technology and the development of joint industrial initiatives.
During the visit, the Indian delegation received a detailed briefing on the production, technical and industrial capabilities of Salamis Shipyards, its experience in complex shipbuilding and defence programmes, and opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Particular attention was paid to Salamis Shipyards’ international activities and its strategic partnership with India’s ACT Infraport Ltd.
The partnership began with the signing of a Technical Cooperation Memorandum in January 2026 and was further developed through a Technical Cooperation Agreement signed at Salamis Shipyards’ facilities on 5 June 2026. The agreement concerns the development of a modern greenfield shipbuilding and ship repair yard in the Gulf of Kutch, on India’s western coast in Gujarat.
Under the partnership, Salamis Shipyards will contribute technical expertise, best practices, and modern shipyard production and management methods, with the aim of establishing an internationally competitive facility for shipbuilding, repairs and conversions.
The partnership with ACT Infraport is a tangible example of the potential for cooperation between the Greek and Indian shipbuilding industries, combining Greece’s expertise in complex shipbuilding projects with India’s growing capabilities and significant investment programme in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors.
Salamis Shipyards CEO Dr George Koros said: “The visit by the high-level Indian delegation is a particular honour for Salamis Shipyards and confirms the significant prospects for further developing Greek-Indian cooperation in the shipbuilding and defence sectors.”
“Our partnership with ACT Infraport in India is already a tangible example of technology transfer and the creation of international industrial synergies. We believe that the two countries have complementary capabilities and a strong foundation for developing new, mutually beneficial partnerships with high added value,” he added.
The Indian delegation included Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, India’s Ambassador to Greece Ravi Shankar and other senior members of the Indian mission.
The delegation was accompanied by officials from Greece’s Ministry of National Defence.
The visit concluded with an exchange of views on prospects for further deepening cooperation in shipbuilding, technology and defence production, within the broader framework of the steadily expanding strategic relationship between Greece and India.
