Greece was ranked 4th place in Category A of the IMO Council, with 153 votes out of 169 participating countries, confirming once again its leading role in international shipping.
In a vote of high geopolitical tension and in an environment dominated by upheavals, Greek shipping recorded one of the strongest presences, just two votes away from the top and strengthening its position as a pillar of stability and know-how in the global shipping system.
“As an elected member of the Council for the next two years, Greece, utilizing the accumulated know-how stemming from its centuries-old maritime tradition, will continue to actively support the goals of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for a modern and safe international shipping, with realistic and applicable rules that do not undermine the sustainability of international shipping and the competitiveness of the sector. Thus, shipping will continue to operate for the benefit of the global economy and the citizens of the entire planet,” the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy said in a statement after the announcement of the results.
