HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on 16 March that it had secured an order for 10 container ships valued at around US$557M, with an undisclosed Asian shipping company named as the counterparty.
Shipbroking and market sources have linked HMM to the contract, with deliveries scheduled through December 2028. The same sources said the pricing suggests the vessels are conventionally fuelled 2,800-TEU ships.
In late 2025, HMM contracted HD Hyundai and Hanwha Ocean for the construction of 12 13,000-TEU vessels. According to a recent disclosure on the South Korean stock exchange, the company has also contracted China’s Huanghai Shipbuilding to build 12 small container vessels, although their size was not disclosed.
