The first small-scale regasification station for liquefied natural gas that will supply an electricity and heating plant in Serres, northern Greece, was put into operation by DEPA Commercial in the town of Dimitra.
The station is part of an effort to expand the small-scale LNG facilities in remote areas for industrial clients who are not connected to a pipeline network.
The new regasification station will supply the high efficiency combined heat and power plant in Dimitra, which will in turn supply heat to the Dimitra Sun greenhouse company.
DEPA Commercial said that the facility was planned and completed specifically for the company, and its setup opens the way for a farm too far away from a natural gas station to meet its needs in electricity and heat through such a station.
This method “supports Greece’s green transition and climate targets,” it said, adding that a station for the storage and regasification LNG station opened in Kastoria to serve the metropolitan region and Argos Orestiko.
By the end of 2024, Florina and the Patra Industrial Area will follow suit.
