Star Bulk, controlled by shipowner Petros Pappas, has taken delivery of three newbuilding Kamsarmax bulk carriers, completing the first phase of its shipbuilding programme at China’s CM Qingdao Shipyard.

The sister vessels, Star Argyro, Star Aline and Star Irene, each have a capacity of 82,000 dwt and were built to a design by SDARI. The three bulk carriers are equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) and shaft generators, technologies that help improve their energy efficiency.

The deliveries complete the first series of five sister Kamsarmax vessels ordered by Star Bulk in China.

The company’s fleet comprises 138 dry bulk carriers with a combined carrying capacity of 13.8 million dwt. Over the past five years, Star Bulk has returned $2.1 billion to shareholders through dividend payments and share buyback programmes.
