Astro Offshore strengthened its offshore subsea capabilities with the addition of Energy Savanah (soon to be renamed Astro Atlas), marking a significant step forward in the company’s expansion into ultra-deepwater operations and new international markets, and reflecting Astro Offshore’s continued investment and commitment to building the industry’s smartest, youngest operating fleet amid ongoing global challenges.
The 97-metre DP2 Multipurpose Support Vessel (MPSV) is the largest vessel in the company’s fleet to date and represents a significant step forward in our move into ultra-deepwater operations and new international markets. Designed for complex offshore environments, the vessel brings enhanced capability, flexibility, and scale to our subsea offering.
A New Flagship for Complex Subsea Operations
Built in 2021, Astro Atlas is equipped to support a wide range of offshore and subsea operations, including subsea construction, cable installation, and pipeline work.
Her configuration includes a 150-tonne subsea AHC crane, a 25-tonne secondary crane, an integrated moonpool, and accommodation for up to 100 personnel, enabling extended offshore campaigns in demanding conditions.
“With our continued investment in modern, high-spec assets, the introduction of Astro Atlas significantly enhances our operational capability,” says Mark Humphreys, CEO of Astro Offshore. “As our largest and most capable vessel to date, she enables us to support a broader range of complex offshore operations and respond more effectively to evolving client requirements.”
Entering The Ultra-Deepwater Segment
A key step forward in capability is the vessel’s operational depth of over 3,000 metres, which enables Astro Offshore to enter the ultra-deepwater segment for the first time.
This expansion opens access to more technically complex and higher-value offshore projects, supported by the vessel’s DP2 dynamic positioning system and robust design, ensuring safe and efficient performance in challenging environments.
Expanding Our Global Footprint
The addition of Astro Atlas also reflects a broader geographic expansion for the business, with the vessel expected to operate in Europe.
This marks an important step in extending our operational footprint beyond the Middle East and strengthening our ability to deliver across multiple offshore markets.
Collaboration with Oceaneering International
Astro Atlas will be deployed under a long term charter arrangement with Oceaneering International Inc., a global subsea engineering and applied technology company.
The collaboration brings together Astro Offshore’s modern vessel capability with Oceaneering’s established subsea and ROV expertise, enabling efficient execution of construction, installation, and intervention scopes in complex deepwater environments.
“The deployment of Astro Atlas under charter with Oceaneering International Inc. strengthens our ability to deliver high-spec subsea capabilities in more complex offshore environments,” adds Humphreys. “As we continue to grow our operational expertise, it allows us to better support the evolving requirements of our clients and the increasing demand for advanced subsea work.”
Building Momentum for the year Ahead
The addition of Astro Atlas reinforces Astro Offshore’s continued focus on building one of the industry’s youngest and most capable fleets, while expanding both operational depth and global reach.
As the company moves further into the year, this milestone reflects a continued commitment to delivering advanced offshore solutions in increasingly complex environments.
