Port of Aarhus has just signed an agreement with the global container shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) for the lease of land at the port in Aarhus, where the company will establish a new container terminal.

Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), MSC Group’s container terminal operator, will move into the Omniterminal, which is currently being finalized.

We are pleased that MSC Group and TiL see Port of Aarhus as an attractive port and are now choosing to invest in establishing a container terminal. This provides businesses with more opportunities to trade with the world, strengthens our competitiveness, and reinforces our role in ensuring Danish supply to the benefit of businesses and Denmark, says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus”.

“Port of Aarhus offers a goodlocation for the future network plans we have made. We will be introducing a direct mainliner between Asia and Aarhus next year and in combination with our own terminal we can provide our customers with apracticallogistics solution. In the longer term, we are looking at other routes that could have a positive impact on Danish business and we will consider further investment when new areas are developed at the port of Aarhus”, says CEO of MSC Søren Toft.

The agreement between Port of Aarhus and MSC Group means that TiL will lease approximately 170,000 square meters in the Omniterminal, where they will establish and operate their own container terminal. The terminal is expected to be fully developed by 2027, at which time MSC Group and TiL will be able to start using the area.

With this agreement, Denmark’s two largest container terminals will be located at the port in Aarhus.
