Maritime asset manager Yangzijiang (YZJ) Maritime Development has ordered 10 newbuilds to increase its portfolio to 105 vessels, of which 53 are under construction, according to a bourse filing on April 27.

Comprising four product/crude tankers newbuilds of approximately 114,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) each, four product/oil tankers of approximately 49,800 DWT each and two bulk carriers of approximately 40,000 DWT, the vessels will be funded through a combination of equity co-investment and debt financing.

The eco-design features, including EEDI Phase 3 compliance, and methanol fuel readiness for the 49,800 DWT type, position the vessels favourably for a market increasingly shaped by environmental regulation.

To be constructed by independent third-party Chinese shipyards with deliveries scheduled from 2027 to 2029, YZJ Maritime says that the vessels will be built to International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) classification standards and equipped with comprehensive econotation features, emphsising the company’s commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Executive chairman and CEO of YZJ Maritime, Ren Yuanlin says, “The addition of these 10 newbuilds underscores our disciplined approach to fleet investment, focusing on proven, eco-compliant designs from established shipyards at competitive contract prices. This latest commitment reflects the Group’s continued confidence in the maritime sector and reinforces our strategic focus on developing a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible fleet.”

Shares in YZJ Maritime closed 1.5 cents or 2.2% lower at 66 cents on April 27.
